Middle School ELA Teacher
Job Title: Middle Year ELA Teacher
Position Overview:
The Middle Years ELA Instructor is responsible for creating an engaging, inclusive, and effective
learning environment for students in grades 6-8. This role involves planning, implementing, and
assessing lessons that meet state standards and foster students' reading, writing, speaking, and
critical thinking skills. The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues, communicate
regularly with parents, and contribute to the school's overall educational mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Delivery:
Deliver engaging and rigorous humanities instruction aligned with grade-level
standards and instructional shifts in English Language Arts.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including
those with major gaps in instruction.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technology to enhance
student learning and engagement.
Equitable Learning Experiences:
Create a classroom environment that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Implement culturally responsive teaching practices to ensure all students feel
valued and respected.
Provide opportunities for student voice and choice in the learning process and incorporate culturally relevant examples and contexts into instruction.
Support for Students with Gaps in Instruction:
Identify and assess students with major gaps in English and language arts
instruction through formative and diagnostic assessments.
Develop and implement targeted interventions and support strategies to address
students' individual learning needs.
Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and families to provide wraparound
support and resources for students who require additional assistance.
Classroom Management:
Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a safe, supportive,
and respectful learning environment.
Establish clear expectations for behavior and academic engagement, and
consistently reinforce these expectations with positive reinforcement and
appropriate consequences.
Address student behavior issues promptly and constructively, using restorative
practices and conflict resolution techniques when necessary.
Foster a sense of community and belonging in the classroom, where all students
feel valued, respected, and empowered to participate.
Data-Driven Instruction:
Analyze student data to monitor progress, identify areas for growth, and inform
instructional decision-making.
Use assessment data to adjust instruction, provide targeted interventions, and track student achievement over time.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
Valid PA teaching certification in 7-12 or 7-9 English.
Deep understanding of grade-level ELA standards and instructional shifts.
Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for diverse learners, including those with
major gaps in instruction.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive
relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education, with a focus on promoting equitable learning experiences for all students.
Salary is commensurate with experience
