We Remember Russell Byers, Founders Day 2024

This year’s Founders Day celebration was a day to remember, as students, staff, and families came together to honor our school's namesake and recognize an outstanding member of the community in his honor.

The celebration was expertly emceed by our talented 8th grade students, who led the program with poise and professionalism. Their leadership set the tone for a day filled with pride.  A special highlight of the program was the 2nd grade students, who recited the school poem with enthusiasm and charm. Their words reflected the essence of our school’s namesake and the enduring legacy of Russell Byers.  Our 5th grade students filled the room with the harmonious sounds of the school song, their voices representing the heart of our school spirit. It was a touching moment as they reminded us all of the values that our school upholds every day.  The audience was captivated by their performance, which served as a beautiful tribute to the history and future of our school.

Each year, we also take this opportunity to recognize a member of the community whose contributions reflect the spirit of our school's namesake. This year's honoree is Tamala Edwards, weekday co-anchor of Action News Mornings on 6abc. The Education Writers Association awarded Ms. Edwards first prize for her contribution to Time 1999 cover story, “What Makes a Good School”.  The recognition of Ms. Edwards was met with applause and appreciation for her unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Founders Day reminds us all of the rich legacy we are a part of and the important role we play in continuing that tradition. It was a day filled with joy, reflection, and an ever-deepening connection to our school community. We look forward to next year’s celebration as we continue to honor our past while shaping the future for generations to come
