Spanish Program

The Spanish program is fully integrated into the life of the school. The goal is to expose students to another language and another culture as part of their everyday curriculum. In this way, speaking Spanish—or any second language—becomes more natural and expected, and students can also begin to place their own neighborhood and culture within the context of a larger world.

A key component in the program is immersion in Spanish culture. Students celebrate and learn about holidays like Cinco de Mayo, Day of the Dead and Christmas. They make masks and costumes and play instruments. The Spanish Program also uses technology to strengthen language skills and cultural awareness. Using the Internet, students build global connection and improve their language skills by doing projects on topics such as The Mayas, Incas, Aztecs, Famous Hispanics and Latin American Geography.
