A C A D E M I C S : Art Celebration of Learning
Four year old kindergarten students explored "The Primacy of Self Discovery" and "The Having of Wonderful Ideas" through the magic of mixing colors. In the process of mixing primary colors to create secondary colors, students read books about color mixing, learned to classify new names for colors in different color families and practiced singing songs about colors. During the Celebration of Learning, 4K students wore rainbow and sang The Rainbow Song to celebrate all the colors they had discovered individually and together.
Third grade students learned about "The Primacy of Self Discovery". They created two art projects that were extensions of their classroom Investigation of the Northern Leopard Frog. Students colored, cut and assembled nine different parts of a frog and turned them into puppets in which all parts move with the pull of a string! Students also created wind chimes to illustrate the five basic life stages of the Northern Leopard Frog. The projects were presented during the Celebration of Learning.
Sixth grade students focused on "The Having of Wonderful Ideas". They studied the life and art of "Pop" artist, Andy Warhol. Students created multiple self-portraits and related the idea of reproduction to their classroom expedition on the ethics of cloning. They participated in a talk-show skit called "To Tell the Truth" in which two imposters are questioned along with the "real" contestant. They decided that none of the contestants would be "real", but that they would all be clones of Andy Warhol!
